Energy Grant For DC Commercial Tenants- I was briefed recently about an exciting program from the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) that is providing $7,000 in free energy efficient appliances, interior and exterior lighting, commercial or domestic refrigerators, central or room air conditioners, insulation, hot water tanks, and a free energy audit at your place of business. This is not a loan, but a direct grant. DDOE hopes to have 100 businesses participate by September 30, and the application only takes a few minutes to complete.

The approval time is also very short: less than 30 days from time of application. A full energy audit will be performed at your business to determine which of your current items described above could use replacement with a new energy efficient item, and these will be replaced within 30 days by a local contractor. You get to choose what you want replaced – up to $7,000; all they ask in return is a copy of before and after utility bills to document effectiveness. Any type of business is eligible.

The simple qualifications include: A valid DC business license, employ less than 15 full time people, and have less than $1 million in annual revenue. Here is the application.
