The iconic British fish and chips dish is served in more than 11,000 fish and chip shops better known as “Chippers” throughout the UK and Ireland with the first opening over 140 years ago. However, try finding one in the United States let alone DC and you will be searching for awhile..until now. The first Washingtonian fish and chips shop has opened in the heart of the U street corridor just off 14th Street NW at 1334 U Street.
We had a chance to meet Tolga Erbatur, a partner of The Codmother who told us “The Codmother will be a true Washingtonian Chippie and will bring this awesome traditional British food to our City with a few modern touches”. He goes on to say “We proudly call our chippie an artisanal junk food heaven.”
